ABOUT.

I was born in the lush wasteland of 1970's South Africa. I’ve been described, among other things, as a wandering lightsmith, psychonaut and dinosaur toeing the viper line.

Whatever the assignment, my lens always aims to venture beyond the layers of collective reality, revealing something more ethereal and sublime. An edgy, stylized aesthetic - however stark or subjective - remains a key element in my work, suggesting that it is through beauty that the connection with a world often lost in plain sight is restored. The language of light ultimately illuminates all, within and without.

Keeping my tongue in my cheek and my heart on my sleeve have led to the wondrous folly of going beyond the frame, baring the intimate tales behind my most iconic images. It remains one of the wildest fucking rides I’ve ever undertaken. In the end, the roaming poet within is just fine and dandy with calling this honest work.

Spanning a photographic career of more than 15 years, my clients include Media24, Caxton, New Media, De Kat, Mercedes Benz, The Nelson Mandela Foundation, Financial Times, American Express, British Airways, FHM, Mail & Guardian, KykNet, Vrij Nederland, Bookforum and Penguin Random House. I’ve also been awarded the PICA Highly Commended Award For Photojournalism in 2014.
